Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans

A D-SNP is a kind of Medicare Advantage plan that provides healthcare benefits for people that have both Medicare and medical assistance from a state plan under Medicaid. Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans:

  • Allow management of healthcare services under one policy.
  • Are usually HMOs or PPOs.
  • Are available through certain private insurance companies in some states but not all.
  • Provide all benefits covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).
  • Provide Prescription Drug coverage (Part D).
  • Typically includes extra benefits not covered by Original Medicare.
